Added Show At Tambaleo

A Band Named Sue is adding a third show with our two shows that we are doing in a few weeks. We are going to be playing at Tambaleo for happy hour on December 2nd. This is an important gig for us because we really want to make a statement there and get invited back to play again and again and again and again. So please help A Band Named Sue promot this show and let us know if you need any promotional materials to hand out to your best friends and co-workers.

Everyone Will Stand In Line

I walk the line; the new Johnny Cash movie opens today. There is such a buzz about Johnny Cash now, so that’s really good for the band. Hopefully there will be a burst of interest in what A Band Named Sue is doing. I have to admit that I'm a much bigger fan of Johnny Cash now than I was before I started playing in A Band Named Sue. My buddy Scott Durkin is a huge Johnny Cash fan and I'm sure that this new movie, I walk the line will be only the second DVD that he owns next to Urban Cowboy which, by the way is a GREAT movie. I think that I might finish my day by sitting down in front of the old TV and watching that movie while I finish up the entries for the blog that my company is starting. Yes folks, I have a job that requires me to work from home. And yes, it is great.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie and I was thinking about taking my wife to the show tonight, but then sitting at home and preparing a nice meal and chilling out sounds really good too. Maybe we will go and see the movie on Saturday night; at least we will have the day to relax a little.

We have some shows coming up in a weeks, so put them down on your calendar

Wednesday November 30th we play happy hour at The Mean Eyed Cat. Come out to the show and tie one off with the boys and girls after the work day and I'll tell you all about how great it is not to have to drive to work!

Saturday December 3rd it's another show at the Brentwood Tavern. We might be playing this show inside because of the cooler weather, but if all is well then we might just be outside again. Come out to the Brentwood and take advantage of the playscape by inviting your friends that have kids that don't get as many chances to come out to see live music. It would be much easier if you could just chain your kids to the wall like they did in the 50's, but those days are long gone.

Remember only 35 more shopping days until Christmas. Click here if you really want to get me something nice!

10 Questions from the Wives of A Band Named Sue

Ladies and Gentlefolk, I would like to introduce you to the wives of A Band Named Sue. I sent out a quick 10 question interview to both of the wives and posted the questions and answers here on the blog. Check back for more interviews from family and fans!

The Questions:

1. What is your full name?
Amber Lee LaBrecque Downing

2. Where were you born?
Alma, Michigan (but lived in Claire)

3. When and where were you when you first met your husband?
April 2005, working at IMark.com, 5000 Plaza on the Lake, Austin, TX – he took the good speakers for my computer and gave me speakers that were “just decent.” I didn’t care about sound quality though, I just needed to be able to hear the music – is that a girl thing?

4. Where did he propose?
River City Grille in Marble Falls. We were having dinner on the back deck overlooking the lake and the sunset.

5. Did he get down on one knee?
Of course. Unfortunately, I don’t remember what he was saying because I was so surprised.

6. What was your initial reaction to the Idea of A Band Named Sue?
Another music project…

7. What did you think the first time that you saw the band?
I was really impressed (although I have to say that I think anything James is part of is pretty darn good). I like the unique trio aspect, plus I heard them for the first time at an outside venue (my favorite way to hear live music). I love it when guys wear cowboy hats!

8. What is your favorite Johnny Cash song?
Actually, I’m just now getting familiar with his music. I was raised by hippie parents and didn’t even know country music existed until later in life, it surely wasn’t played on any of our radios at home.

9. If you were to put together a tribute band to a famous singer or band, who would it be?
Pleasurecraft – I miss the rock shows!

10. besides playing in the band, what else is your husband really good at that might suprise some people? (keep it clean!)
James is really good at ironing! A bit of an iron snob actually. To the point that he does his own instead of having me touch his clothes with that hot slab of metal because I don’t do it “right”. He likes stiff creases; I just get the wrinkles out. It works out though because very rarely do I have to iron my own stuff anymore (one may wonder if I purposely set this situation up…he’ll never know!). Also, even if you think he’s the cool rockstar type, he really is a bit of a computer geek. He’s not into computer games (thank goodness) but I bet he spends just as many hours as a gamer, in front of the computer organizing and re-organizing his music and information files (if only he’d organize things that weren’t just in cyberspace…), and now writing blogs about anything and everything. It’s nice to have your own personal IT department though!
